PRESS STATEMENT

26/04/2024

Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN) is deeply saddened by the tragic news of a motor accident in Akungba, which claimed the lives of over two individuals, including undergraduate students, children, and adults. This incident is not only heartbreaking but also underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in our communities.

The loss of lives in this accident is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by inadequate road infrastructure, particularly in busy areas like the university vicinity in Akungba. As a bustling hub for students, traders, and community settlers, it is imperative that immediate intervention is carried out to address the pressing issue of road safety in the region.

OSYN calls on the government to swiftly intervene and provide assistance to the affected families and the community at large. Furthermore, we urge the government to prioritize the dualization of the road leading to Akungba to prevent future tragedies of this nature. The dualization of the road is not only inevitable but also essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of all road users in the area.

In light of this unfortunate incident, OSYN extends its heartfelt condolences to the management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), the parents of the victims, and the entire community. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time, and we stand ready to support efforts aimed at preventing such tragedies in the future.

It is our collective responsibility as stakeholders in the development of our state to work together towards creating safer roads and communities for all. OSYN remains committed to advocating for the welfare and safety of the youth and citizens of Ondo State, and we call on all relevant authorities to take decisive action to prevent further loss of lives on our roads.

Signed,
